When many packages arrive at a buyer’s home, that is an Amazon sellers dream. After all that is the purpose of the Amazon marketplace to sell products so that Amazon and the seller makes a profit and the buyer receives an item they are in need of that solves a problem. But Dishona sellers have taken this to an extreme and I’ve employed a scam where a buyers homes are flooded with products that they didn’t even buy.
show moreThis scam called brushing is where online sellers purchase their own products through a fake buyer account that they’ve created. The product that was purchased is sent to the fake buyer’s address. This address is an actual and real address. The package is sent without a return address, label, order number or other identifying paperwork, the seller then leaves a review using a fake buyer’s account.
So it is flagged as a verified review. Oftentimes the addresses that are targeted within this scam are used frequently. People can receive multiple products a week from month. And in many cases, most people that receive unsolicited products are baffled as to why they keep receiving products at their home that they did in order.
In the age of identity theft, customers can be left, wondering how their information got in the hands of such dishonest sellers and become concerned about their personal information in the hands of the wrong people. This is a scam that sellers use to boost their positive reviews. Amazon has taken notice.
It’s reported that Amazon investigates every report of customers receiving unsolicited packages and will ban all vendors and reviewers who abused the review system.
